Our mission is to help our patients maintain optimal oral health and to positively impact our patients' comfort, beauty, confidence, and general well-being. We do this by providing personalized and compassionate care, and using a long-term approach.

Dental Practice History
Dr. John Gardiner bought the practice in 1973 from the previous dentist who had been in Fairhaven since the 1940’s. After 35+ years of full-time dental practice, Dr. Gardiner retired in 2007, making way for Dr. Burton to take his place. Since that time there has been modernization of equipment and computerization at the facility, and most of Dr. Gardiner's loyal staff stayed with the practice through this transition and remain here to this day.
In 2014 Dr. Burton realized that the old facility was just not meeting the needs of a growing modern dental practice and in December of that year he decided to move the practice to 3108 Newmarket Street in Barkley Village. In this well-designed and state-of-the-art modern facility Dr. Burton and his staff are better able to provide outstanding and efficient dental care for you and your family.

Meet Dr. Burton and his Team
Christopher J. Burton, DDS
I grew up in Bellingham and attended Western Washington University were I completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Anthropology. I then continued at Western Washington University and attained my masters degree. Next, I was off to Washington, DC where I earned my DDS from Howard University College of Dentistry. Throughout my 20+ year career in Dentistry I've earned numerous awards in General, Esthetic, Implant and Restorative Dentistry. In my spare time I enjoy many outdoor sports and all the great Northwest has to offer. I look forward to helping you make your smile its best.
LAURIE | Office Manager
I am originally from Yakima, where I earned an accounting degree from Yakima Valley Community College. I joined the Newhaven Dental team in January of 2023. When not at work, I enjoy being at home with my husband and fur babies. I love reading and rooting for the Mariners.
Christy | Dental Assistant
I grew up in Ferndale and attended Bellingham Technical College where I graduated as a Dental Assistant in August 1999. Shortly after I joined Newhaven Dental and became a Certified Dental Assistant. I am very close with my friends and family and enjoy spending as much time with them as I can.
NEL | Hygienist
I began my dental career in the late ‘90’s. My main focus in dentistry has always been based on a holistic approach to oral health, in connection with overall wellness. Along with Dr. Burton and my fantastic colleagues, I am dedicated to making patients feel welcome, and confident in the care they receive. In my free time, I enjoy baking, dining out with friends, and visiting family abroad.
Debbie | Hygienist
I graduated as a Registered Dental Hygienist from the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine in 1994. Throughout my 20-year career in dental hygiene I have worked in both general dentistry and periodontal practices in Maine, New York and Washington. I actively participate in continuing education to remain current in the dental hygiene field. I am an avid traveler and have visited more than 15 countries over the years.
